The departure lounge is filling up quickly. Her flight will be departing in thirty minutes; however, Sally isn’t bored. She always enjoys watching people, trying to guess their background and what they do for a living. How many of these passengers were like her, starting a new life elsewhere?

The last year had been disastrous. Her condo had been burnt to the ground in the Palisades fire. Her job disappeared because of advances in Artificial Intelligence. Her marriage had ended.

The announcement came over the intercom. “Jet Blue Flight 300 to Boston is now boarding. Please have your boarding pass ready at the gate.”

As she was boarding her flight, she knew it was time to leave California, it was time to turn the page.
