“Oh,” Janis said, when James opened the door as she was reaching for the knob, “I didn’t know you were coming. You startled me. What are you doing here?” Janis asked.

The scowl on her face told James he wasn’t at all welcomed.

“I brought back your Beacon Hill apartment keys.”

James asked about the engagement ring that he gave her last year. 

“I didn’t want to be an Indian giver, but I’ve met someone else who can use it.”

“Wonderful!” Janis responded, “Now, return the key to my Beacon Hill apartment, and we’ll both live happily ever after!.”

And so far, they have.
