There are real estate companies big and small throughout the downtown Boston area.
Coldwell Banker, RE/MAX, Century 21 and Sotheby’s (through the Gibson Sotheby’s franchise) are the big names. Smaller companies do very well, though. Many of the city’s most successful agents work at small, boutique firms.
Whether or not you are a successful agent has little to do with the company for which you work. (This, of course, is an opinion not shared by everyone …).

Today, Realogy announced they were getting even bigger.
According to Inman News:
Realogy, the largest real estate franchise company in the United States, has added another real estate franchise brand to its already formidable list, today announcing a 50-year licensing agreement with a publishing company to use the Better Homes and Gardens real estate brand.
Financial terms of the deal with Meredith Corp. — a publishing company that owns about 25 subscription magazines, including Better Homes and Gardens, Ladies’ Home Journal, Family Circle and Parents — were not disclosed …
Existing Realogy company-owned and franchise brands include Century 21, Coldwell Banker, ERA and Sotheby’s International Realty. Realogy was formed in 2006 as a spin-off of real estate and travel services giant Cendant Corp. and was acquired this year by an affiliate of private equity firm Apollo Management LP in a deal valued at about $8.5 billion.
