Sorry for the downtime today. I switched hosting companies from Yahoo! to MediaTemple. About halfway through, I decided to take a nap.
It was surprisingly simple. If you decide to switch hosting companies, all I can say is, remember to transfer EVERYTHING from your old server to your hard drive, before switching your DNS settings. You’ll lose access to your data, otherwise. I’ve switched companies several times, and I still make this mistake.
The good news is, it is very easy to move a WordPress database from one host to another. I did it manually, perhaps others know how to do it automatically. All I did was create an SQL export file from the old data, then created and updated tables on the new server. It went smoothly.
One thing some of you may not be aware of – the blog’s address is actually https://www.bostonreb.com/blog. There used to be a seamless switch from the main www.bostonreb.com page to the blog page, but, as you can see, there is now a lag of a second. I’ll try to figure out how to replace the index page with the blog page. Yahoo! did it automatically.
In the meantime, update your bookmark so it has BostonREB as https://174.136.49.2/~tro44nre/blog, and there’ll be no lag or redirect.
DO IT NOW!
