Brookline is one of the 25 best places to live in the country — and the best place to live in Massachusetts, according to a report from Niche. The area ranked 14th nationwide and first in the state.

Based on statistics from a variety of sources including the United States Department of Education, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the U.S. Department of Agriculture, as well as surveys and millions of resident responses, Niche graded neighborhoods across the country.

Brookline received an A+ for its public schools, an aspect of living in Brookline that contributes to its high family-friendliness ranking. The town also earned high grades for nightlife and diversity.

“Brookline has awesome parks like Larz Anderson Park, which has amazing views and an ice rink in winter,” one resident told Niche. “It’s a super safe town, you can walk or bike almost anywhere and the T makes it easy to get to Boston in no time. Overall Brookline is a great place to grow up, make friends and enjoy the perks of living near Boston without being in the middle of the chaos.”

Survey respondents also used words like “progressive,” “peaceful” and “family-oriented” to describe their neighborhood.
