Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and its subsequent economic isolation have roiled financial markets around the world, but the disruption is unlikely to have much impact on the U.S. housing market, at least for now.
Foreign buyers of U.S. residential real estate accounted for less than 2% of transactions between April 2020 and March 2021, and Russian buyers accounted for less than 1% of those, the National Association of REALTORS® reported.

Negative impacts on the housing market from the war are most likely to come from sustained oil prices above $100 per barrel, deeper effects of higher inflation, larger future interest rate increases, weaker global currencies relative to the U.S. and slower global growth, NAR said.

From the paint colors to the layout and location, a person’s home can significantly impact his or her mental health, according to a new survey from Sears Home Services of more than 1,000 consumers. The survey found that the following property attributes contribute most to a person’s satisfaction with his or her home:
- Security and safety: 54.4%
- Location: 52.7%
- A section of the home dedicated to relaxation: 51.4%
- Privacy: 49.3%
- Size: 46.4%
- Living situation (housemates): 45%
- Outdoor space (garden, balcony, etc.): 43%

On the other hand, respondents indicated the following features contribute most to dissatisfaction with a home, according to the Sears Home Services survey:
- Noise level: 26.7%
- Size: 24.9%
- Proximity to neighbors/other homes: 22.8%
- Pests: 21.6%
- Design choices: 21.6%
- Lack of privacy: 20%
- Lack of outdoor space: 20%

A new survey from the National Association of Realtors showed that buyers and sellers in urban areas, like downtown Boston, hit by the coronavirus found many Boston condos buyers would be ready to visit an open house today, despite the pandemic.

Sixty-five percent of those who attended an open house within the last year would do so now without hesitation, the May 20 survey found. A further 20 percent would if medical experts or government officials said it was OK. Many saw open houses were less risky than visiting retail stores.

The survey of 3,500 American Rent Cafe users found 83 percent would take a self-guided tour of a condominium if it was available. The two most important reasons cited were the ability to view the space at their own pace and the ability to practice social distancing.
