Boston condos and the nuclear family

I recently had a friend who became a dad for the second time, please keep the applause to a minimum.

He told me that he thought it would be different as a dad coming home from work.

(Bartender, please cut him off)

I learned a few things about new dads;

First, they see there daily return to the home as an event of great momentousness.

Dad’s announce it at the door, “Daddy’s home!”

As if family members will drop to their knees

and weep at their good fortune:

Reality check, they do not.

The second thing dad’s like to do do is:

Avoidance

When I was a kid the only thing I heard about dad is,

“John, where … is … your father?

I saw him with his golf clubs,

and that is the last we know of his whereabouts.

It must of been a lot different in the 1950’s, because then dad’s were building bomb shelters behind their house.

They’d be underground digging huge holes in their own back yard while drinking a beer.

I guess back then it was more comfortable dealing with a nuclear holocaust than a nuclear family.
