We both agreed to go on a diet, that was back on New Year’s Eve. But after a few failed attempts we started up again. I ripped the packet open, and the scent hit: thick, rich chocolate filled the air. I’ve been so good for weeks; another pound gone today. I thought selfishly a time for a treat.
I locked the door; Mona, mustn’t see this. A few minutes later, I had chocolate caked on my hands, round my mouth, even on my nose.
Satisfied, I took my flannel shirt sleeve and wiped my face. Then there was a knock: “John, why is the door locked.”
