Boston condo broker: The spirit of the staircase.

l’esprit de l’escalier means in English “the spirit of the staircase.”  A French term used in English for the predicament of thinking of the perfect reply too late. That thing you wished you had a said just a moment ago, the bon mot or the clever riposte. It only comes to us as we’re walking away.

Why am I bringing this up? Earlier today, I was with a Boston condo buyer and his parents. The parents and the son were bantering back and forth over the benefits of Back Bay over Beacon Hill and visa-versa.

Afterwards, I thought of a good comeback line for the son, but it came to me two hours too late.
