I helped Jerry find a Beacon Hill apartment for rent, my first rental in 2025.
Jerry, “John, People just aren’t kind anymore. At least, they aren’t to me. I know I shouldn’t take it personally, but I can’t help it. It seems like the nicer I am, the more rude people are to me.”
Jerry and I are walking down Charles Street, we stopped at the liquor store.
Jerry picks up a six pack of beer and states to the cashier, “You look nice this evening.”
Cashier, “Hmm. Seriously?”
Jerry, “John, see what I mean. She wasn’t the only one, just the most blatant.”
We walk back to his new Boston Beacon Hill apartment.
I’m glad I’m home. As Jerry fumbles with the keys.
“Hi, Jerry. How was your day?”
Jerry, “Ugh. My annoying neighbor Maggie.”
“Hey,” Jerry says, hurrying to get into his Beacon Hill apartment.
