A word or two about senior housing

There isn’t anything wrong with being a salesperson. That is what I do. There is an old saying about how no one makes money until someone sells something.

I have run into a few salespeople cleverly disguised as social workers or professionals who specialize in working with seniors.

I’ll give you an example, I was in NY for my mom’s 90th birthday party. She was telling me how real estate brokers were trying to convince her and my dad, to sell they’re Westchester home and they can assist them with senior housing.

Be aware of the Realtor who makes housing recommendations for assisted living or nursing home care. If you are a senior, never let a salesperson talk you into selling your house. Call the a real estate broker after you decide you want to move.

For an older person seeking housing in Boston, the Boston Housing Authority (BHA) offers several options, including elderly/disabled housing, and income-restricted rental housing. The BHA also provides support services and activities, and they have a pilot homeshare program. Additionally, the Massachusetts Department of Housing and Community Development provides resources through Housing Navigator and other programs.

My final thoughts

Both my brother and I, agreed that we will take care of our parents so they can live the rest of their lives, in the home they love.

This was our choice, which may not be suitable for everyone with elderly parents.

Peace be with you
