Back in 1997, a smarty-pants, needing a name for his new data-index website, came up with the word “Googol,” which is the number one followed by a hundred zeroes. A perfect name he thought! But as he typed Googol into the domain-name search engine, he committed a critical typo. And the name stuck. Don’t believe me? Google it.
