Today, I spoke with a Beacon Hill apartment owner who had their apartments listed with a large Boston real estate franchise. He wasn’t satisfied with their marketing as they didn’t even list the apartment on the local MLS.
Reading the fine print in Beacon Hill apartment listing contact
As a result. he wanted to list his apartments with Ford Realty Inc., However, after reading his listing agreement contract he was committed to this real estate agency until September 1, 2020. Should the Beacon Hill apartment get rented by another party they would be entitled to their portion of the broker fee.
As a Boston real estate broker. I’m surprised at the length that some agencies will go to protect their self-interests.
I’m reminded of the fable of the Scorpion and the Frog
The Moral of The Scorpion and the Frog
The moral of this fable is that like the scorpion, humans possess compulsions that they cannot repress even when it is in their best interest. On the flip side, the frog is a testament to being way too trusting. In the end, the biggest takeaway is that it’s very important to know someone at their core and make judgments based on that.
