There was a sudden jump in the number of properties on the market in the downtown area, over the past couple of weeks. It remains to be seen, however, whether or not the market will absorb them. My guess is “yes”. With the start of the Fall market and July and August were just as hot as last year.

The same thing could happen, now. Still, as I said two weeks ago, if you’re thinking of buying, now could be the time.

What if they threw an open house and nobody came?

That’s exactly the problem some would-be Greater Boston home sellers are seeing as the once-hot Bay State housing market noticeably cools.

Brokers say some of this past weekend’s open houses attracted no would-be buyers at all.

That’s right. Zero.

We’re thrilled now if we get four or five people at an open house. A lot of people drive by, and, if it’s not what they want, they just keep on going.

Some Beacon Hill real estate agents had few, if any, buyers at many of their open houses this weekend in Hyde Park, Roslindale, West Roxbury and Quincy. Other brokers and sellers reported a similar lack of interest at open houses on Seaport and in Cambridge.
