From today’s Globe:
The Postal Service has named the big real estate firm Jones Lang LaSalle to develop the annex site it will vacate, 16 acres on Fort Point Channel in a rapidly developing section of downtown near South Station.
This may turn out to be just what the Fort Point Channel / Seaport District / South Boston Waterfront neighborhoods need.
It will take years, however, to go from this agreement to people living and working on that site. Jones Lang LaSalle hasn’t even bought the property, yet – a price has not been negotiated.
Once it is, then it will have to go through an exhausting permitting process, then the design process, then the building process.
Meaning, we will be well into decade two of this new century before we see new towers in the skyline.
Let’s hope things turn out better than NorthPoint did, for the developer.
