Where’s the water?

“Billy, be ready tomorrow we’re going home.”

“Where are we going, Daddy?”

“Home, at the Palisades.”

Cutting through a thick layer of smoke and soot, they landed at a place characterized by countless heaps of rubble, withered vegetation, and pathetic sunlight. His father guided him though a bleak spot where hundreds of things in twisted shapes lay scattered.

“Do you see some toys around, Johnny?”

Johnny said nothing.

Confused, his son asked, “So horrible! What’s this place?”

“This place? Oh, it was our home before two fires went mad on the same day and at the same hour.

And we had no water.”

The fire hydrants were dry.
