Tammy woke up at four thirty with a pain in her head from a night a the Sevens Pub. The apartment was quiet. Outside, cars and trucks grumbled down the Charles street. She walked to the kitchen. The wooden floor creaked. The fridge was buzzing. She took out a can of diet coke. “Pop”. She slurped it quickly to refresh her dry mouth. From the bedroom came the sound of Mark snoring. It was all She heard from him for the last four hours. She thought of her parents old house with all of its bangs and creaks and rustling. Here she hear Mark snoring in a Beacon Hill apartment, A car backfired on the Charles Street. The steam radiators began to buzz.
She missed her childhood home in Connecticut.
