Beacon Hill broker and Memorial Day
Boston Condos for Sale and Apartments for Rent
During a morning a bike ride, I came across First World War Memorial Statue.
There was a bench near by, I leaned my bike against a tree, sat for a few minutes and reflected about Memorial Day as I looked up at the statue.
After the spring deluges
when rain dripped off the soldier like tears
the sun shines illuminating the statue
and the poignant plethora of flowers.
Oh, but the First World War was not the last
and humans have learned nothing from the past.
Beacon Hill broker and Memorial Day
The Beacon Hill broker lived to work. Even on the holidays, he never stopped going into the office, even though his employees took off, and walk-ins were few to none on Memorial Day.
“Who’s there?” he said, looking up from his desk.
A small woman appeared at his door.
“Excuse me, sir,” she said with a heavy accent. “I am here to remove your trash.”
“Okay. Come in.” Said the Beacon Hill broker.
She hurried across the room and quietly emptied the small black plastic trash can.
“You work on Memorial Day?” The Beacon Hill broker said.
“Yes. I work every day.”
Sitting on a chair, eating a hotdog and sipping a cold beer that afternoon, the Beacon Hill broker wondered if, unlike him, the woman had a family.
Peace be with you
