I daydream at my desk, forsaking the thought of doing Beacon Hill apartment showings. I enter the bedroom, She’s reading her book curled up in the bed. I open the curtains and look out the window. Snowflakes swirl in the air, the snow begins to cling to the Maple tree in the backyard, the dark bark is fading into the cover of white. I kiss her on the forehead, and tell her I have a Beacon Hill apartment showing. She mumbles, “Be careful out there.”
I toast a leftover pizza bagel but it doesn’t appetize. I plug in the kettle and open a package of Swiss Miss coca. I hear a Stevie Nicks song in the background. As I wait for the water to boil, I humorously laugh to myself, there are directions with pictures on how to pour a package of Swiss Miss into a cup of hot water. Well, if I did have a hangover, perhaps those directions would be useful.
Snow cascades down like a waterfall. I bundle up with a heavy winter coat, and put on my L.L. Bean boots. My phone pings, a text message – “Sorry John, I have to cancel our Beacon Hill apartment showing today.”
