Boston: best city in the WORLD!

We’re #1!
CNN has come out with a list of six cities where you might want to consider buying real estate (Boston, in this case, meaning “Greater Boston”, based on the map that accompanies the story):
One of the first places to experience the downturn, Beantown also appears to be among the first to rebound: In the […]

Why is my dad on Facebook?

The Globe had an article yesterday on the “new face” of the real estate industry. Meaning, agents in their 20s and 30s. The median age of an agent is 52 years old. The median age of a buyer is 32 years old, so you can see the disconnect.
[T]he industry is now scrambling […]

State of the national housing market: not so good

The Wall Street Journal runs some numbers to determine where there are signs of strength and weakness in the national housing market.
The paper analyzed data in 28 major metropolitan areas to determine “overall strength”, based on months of available supply of homes listed for sale, change in inventory since last year, average price change during […]

Buying a home? Wait two weeks

Buyers have an opportunity this spring to get a good deal on a new home.
While there is no “glut” of inventory in the downtown neighborhoods, the number of listings is high, meaning sellers will have to either be willing to negotiate or have something to offer unique from the competition, if they want to sell, […]

Hard times for some … for others, some comfort

I laughed when I read two stories in yesterday’s Times.
The first involved a property in Manhattan that had been rented out to a gallery. The rent was $1.8 million per year. The gallery didn’t have the money for a security deposit, so it put up a painting as collateral.
Last year, the gallery went […]

Title insurance policies: not so great a deal

From today’s Globe:

The reason for title insurance is that someone else may have a claim on your property, such as an unpaid contractor, an heir of the last owner, or a neighbor who thinks the fence is in the wrong place. Since a mortgage loan is secured by the property, the lender’s policy protects the […]

When not to buy

From today’s Globe:
Tony Annino of Belmont has seen about 50 properties in his home search and though he’s been interested in a few places, he’s in the “wait and see” camp.
“My fiancĂ©e and I have our eye on three places in Waltham right now. We’ve visited some of them two or three times and would […]

Boston-area housing cheaper than at any time during past eight years

What? I just pass on news, I don’t write it.
According to the Globe:
While the Boston-area housing market remains among the most expensive in the country, it is now relatively more affordable than it was earlier in the decade. Median home prices in metro Boston fell to $398,970 in 2007. That’s 4.2 times the median family […]
