If you read the papers at all, you know that there’s a proposal to levy a new tax on high-end home sales on Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard. The goal is to raise funds to pay for affordable housing construction.

According to the Boston Redevelopment Authority, there are several “affordable housing” units available at the new Avenue 152 condo development, in South Boston.

There are a bunch of “affordable” housing units available at the recently completed NorthPoint project, near Lechmere Station, on the borders of Cambridge, Somerville, and Boston.
Information on the City of Cambridge’s affordable housing program may be found on the city’s website.

When a developer in Boston builds a large condo project (over 10 units, I think), it has to agree to set aside a certain percentage of units as “affordable”. This is somewhere in the 13% range. Whether or not this is a good thing is open to debate (to me, at least), but [...]
