Boston to get its own high-end homes
magazine.
By Greg Gatlin, BostonHerald
Dan Kaplan can’t figure out why virtually every region in
the country except New England has a luxury homes magazine targeting the “super
affluent.”
That will change in August when Kaplan launches New England
Home, showcasing the region’s most impressive family estates, oceanfront compounds and
cutting-edge urban lofts.
“Our mission is to celebrate the great
interior design and architecture that’s going on in homes across New England,” said Kaplan, a
publishing entrepreneur who started Worcester Magazine and Rhode Island Monthly and raised $1.5
million from investors to launch New England Home.
The magazine is targeted
at people who already own million-dollar homes, or who like to fantasize about it. Indeed,
some publishing folks call the luxury homes category “shelter
porn.”
Kaplan said 2.5 percent of homes sold in Massachusetts sell for
more than $1 million.
The bimonthly will mail 25,000 copies to people with
household income of more than $200,000 and homes valued at more than $1 million. Another 25,000
copies will be available on newsstands for $4.95.
