Okay, the BBJ reported the #’s wrong. It was actually 228 to 205. So, they aren’t responsible (solely) for destroying our banking system.

This is why Ma. is hated by the rest of the country! We lost by three votes and where did they come from? Hello! you want to know why young people are leaving the state.

A bizarre comment; the no votes came from 228 congressmen (and women?) - not three from MA.
People from outside of the Commonwealth think we’re too liberal and yet these three voted with the conservative Republicans.
I would think those outside the state would be happy since most of them oppose the bailout and are outraged by it.

The average American does not understand the current economic situation and the impact the financial system have on them. In addition, the media is spinning it as a bail out of Wall Street. Wall Street as we have traditionally knew it is almost gone. The only big Wall Street firm that is left standing is Goldman and Morgan Stanley. Goldman has filed to become a bank. Wall Street deserves it, but the average American will need credit to function. If we total destroy the financial system, then we will have to pay for everything with cash. There will be no student loans, no mortgages, no car loans, no business loans, no credit cards, etc. Those companies who can afford to make loans will charge high interest rates because there is no competition. Right now, only Wall Street jobs are cut, but without support for the financial system layoffs will start to come from main street.

That was my fault, David. The BBJ story originally said the vote was 208-205, so I had written that the three MA Congressmen had killed it. I updated my post but left her comments, as is.

I never let the truth get in the way of a good story.

Come on John, i hope this post was a snark, because if it wasn’t it’s just disingenuous.

Pelosi delivered more to Boehner then she said she would. Boehner let this get to the table when he knew by mid-day he didn’t have the votes, hoping for an act of god.

This needs to be laid solely at the feet of the house GOP, who torpedoed a GOP bill from their president, signed on by their Maverick “I suspended my campaign to get the job done, and I have” McCain.

That said, it was a shitty deal and it’s a good thing. but if you’re assigning blame, lay it where it counts.

    To Linda,

the only reason we’re leaving, is because of a lack of affordable housing.

You can blame that one on easy credit, inflated housing prices, and the large middle age population pushing us out.

We’re not going to live in Orange Ma, and commute to our jobs in Boston. Just ain’t going to happen, and it’ll get worse until the state offers us incentives to stay and raise families. the sad result is Ma will be seeing a larger and larger divide between the rich and poor as the middle class / young class moves to find the American dream.
