More about Pine Street’s Upton Street plans

In case you’re following the issue, there was an article in today’s Globe about the Pine Street Inn’s plans to open a transitional housing facility on Upton Street, in Boston’s South End.

In meetings, Pine Street addressed the uptight Uptonites’ questions, and posted answers online. No sex offenders. No substance abusers. Mostly older residents. Some working.

All able to hold their lives together without constant supervision. One resident supervisor. Daily on-site case managers.

Pine Street officials would actually be reducing the number of residents in those buildings, from 60 addicts to 37 tenants. They say their 500 other tenants, in buildings across Boston and Brookline, have given their neighbors no trouble. Grateful for homes many thought they would never have, they keep to themselves.

Uptight Uptonites were still not happy.

If the Pine Street Inn addressed these people’s concerns, then what IS the issue? I haven’t attended any meetings so I feel like I’m missing some information. I’ve also made an effort to include Upton Street on my route when I walk through the neighborhood. I thought I’d be able to see what kind of impact Hope House currently has on the block. It’s a very quiet street.

The latest, from the South End News:

    A compromise?

Yvonne Abraham = the world’s least impartial reporter or, sorry, ‘columnist.’ Even if you agree with the writer it’s still hard to read without discounting it off hand as fluff. What a hack and what a sad statement of what the Globe has become.

Other than that, keep up the good work John.

BS, you took the words right out of my mouth. The column was another attempt by Yvonne Abraham to throw stink bombs into her former neighborhood. And she also does not seem to be concerned that she allows her vigor to throw bombs get in the way of the facts. At least we can count on the South End News.
