This is insanity and I’m really annoyed about it

I can’t even pretend to keep my patience about this.

According to the Globe:

The Patrick administration is considering a plan that would make mortgage lenders pay moving expenses as well as the first and last months’ rent of homeowners who lose their homes to foreclosure.

The proposal is part of foreclosure prevention initiative administration officials will present today at a meeting with some of the state’s biggest mortgage lenders. The plan would make lenders that foreclose on homeowners pay $5,000 for the relocation and administrative costs that nonprofit agencies would incur in finding them a new home, according to a draft obtained by the Globe.

Are you f-ing kidding me?

No, let me be more clear.

ARE YOU F-ING KIDDING ME????

This is easily the most insane idea of have ever heard of. It’s insane.

Here’s how a loan works, in case those in government don’t understand. You find a home you want to buy. The bank gives you the money, all of it, upfront. They give you money. Your responsibility is to pay that money back, over time, along with interest.

They lend, you pay. If you don’t pay, the bank takes back the home.

It’s a pretty easy concept to understand.

Most people get it. If they can’t pay back their loan, they understand, they’ll have to vacate the premises and move on with their lives. Many are relieved to do so, since they will no longer have the debt hanging over their heads, every day.

(Also, might I add, in most cases, the borrowers have been living “free” for months - the bank foreclosed because the borrowers hadn’t been paying their loans for months - so this only adds insult to injury …)

This is the equivalent of the bank repossessing your car, but then being forced to give you a T-pass in return, or worse, having to drive you to and from work for the next couple of months.

It’s the equivalent of you buying a lawnmower at Sears on credit, then not paying them back, and them taking back the lawnmower but being forced to cut your grass for the rest of the summer.

Oh, wait, let’s not give them any ideas …

I’m going to assume that more-reasonable people are going to get involved to quash this proposal.

If not, you can reach me at the State House. Chained to the doors of the legislature.

    Amen,

brother! People need to take responsibiltiy for themselves.

I feel the same way. Once again, liberal MA leads the way to fiscal disaster.

Frankly, if all lenders were straight-shooters, I’d say this measure is

ridiculous but in the context of things, it’s somewhat appropriate. Many lenders are not

responsible and take advantage of people who are not educated enough to see the full implications

of their decision. Have you ever heard a lender go over additional costs you will have to face as

a homeowner. In some towns those can be sewage, trash collection, pet registration fees, etc.

Some lenders are dishonest in their assessments and this would make them think twice before they

stick a loan to someone they know fair well will probably never be able to repay.

    love your analogies

I agree with you, and there should be NO support

from the government for anyone who can’t afford their mortgage and goes into forecloseure. Can’t

afford your adjustable rate mortgage? Sell!

    I just

wanted to check in to see if there was any follow-up. and again, I have to say:

    People need

    to take responsibility for themselves.

Lenders lend. They don’t owe me anything else; I

owe them. Pet registration IS NOT the responsibility of the bank. It’s my responsibility. If I

borrow too much money, it’s my own goddamn fault.

    I have a headache…

Our lender kept asking why we wanted a 30yr fixed if we were probably going

to move again before 5/10 years. Because of the situation we’re in now - rates going up, market

    going down.

You can say “no” to them. I did.

“Have you ever heard a lender go over

additional costs you will have to face as a homeowner.”

Nope. And I’ve never had a car

salesman tell me how much gas a car uses (unless it’s high mileage, then it’s a feature). Or tell

me about the brakes I’ll be replacing in the future.

Maybe they should pass a law that if I

can’t afford my car, I can get back all the money I’ve spent on gas.

    That would be

    sweet.

Voting for Patrick was a huge mistake, he has ducked all of his campaign promises

(”we don’t have the money for anti-gang funding” - but you can loan to people who are

overextended? WTF?) and is doing stupid crap like this. Gah.
