Marlborough is a pretty city

You can’t find a better New England city than Marlborough, Massachusetts.

I guess.

Anyway, a new loft project called Renaissance Lofts was profiled in today’s Globe.

Renaissance Lofts sits near downtown, in a neighborhood of single-family homes, auto body shops, and storefront churches. There are other hints of renewal in the city. A nearby old armory building was recently bought at auction by a developer and there has been talk about condos.

A wine shop and Starbucks opened not far away. And the new Assabet River Rail Trail is less than a quarter mile from the lofts.

Fairbanks plans to remove part of the roof of the three-story building, to create a courtyard in the center of the structure. Renaissance Lofts will also have a rooftop deck, work and storage space in the basement, and exposed framing and ductwork.

Units start at $235,000 for 1,300 square feet. Some apartments span two floors. Others include basement work space. A handful with special features or private deck space are priced at $400,000 to $500,000.

The developer (apparently, an architect) seems to have done a great job of turning an old mill into 29 lofts, each with a distinct design and layout. The building will include a 3600 square foot artist gallery on the first floor (it’s for sale for $500,000, according to MLS).

Occupancy is scheduled for late summer, 2007.

Marlborough is a great place to live, I recommend you all check it out.

The town is notable for being the birthplace or home to many famous Americans, including Horatio Alger, writer (and accused child molester), and Marcia Cross, actress, among others.

    That’s a

first. Marlborough being pretty? I’ve always associated it with downtown Framingham, which can

be seedy. Sure it’s relatively safe, but there’s still a lot of drug traffic all along the Rt-20

corridor in many of the apartment complexes. I guess some parts of Northern Marlborough are

pretty, but the same goes with Framingham.

Actually, Lowell was supposedly started its revitalization in the 1990’s. Artists

already moved there and then quickly got priced out of downtown.

yeah I know a few artists that live

there however it’s still a shitty town, with lots of irresponsible drivers and a lot of crime.

I think that Marlborough is an up and coming area.

It’s convienent to 495, the Mass Pike too. I’ve driven by the building and they are doing a

really nice job. Marlborough is a bit rough around the edges but if it was Weston then Artists

couldn’t afford it, much less the rest of us! Artists are used to having to live in “rougher

areas”, they tend to be cheaper! What usually happens is after the artists move into an area it

cleans up, prices go up (see Mikes comment about Lowell) and it becomes a nice place to live (look

at all the artist areas in Boston that now are the high-end places to live). Probably a good sign

that a project like this is happening in Marlborough, it will mean that the area will be cleaning

up soon! Artists tend to be trendsetters.
