Globe goes all Web 2.0

Nice surprise today.

The Boston Globe started a real estate blog. There’s a week’s worth of posts, already.

It looks as though they have several correspondents (I will not use the word “blogospondents”). Kimberly Blanton, head real estate reporter for the Globe is contributing, as are a local Realtor®, a homebuyer, and someone from the Lowell Registry of Deeds, among others.

I hope they stick with it. So far, entertaining posts, and, more importantly, relevant and interesting.

Bah - it doesn’t allow user comments. What kind of blog is

that? I take it the Globe is trying to stay relevant by adapting to newer forms of media, but user

comments are one of the fundamental reasons that blogs are more compelling than newspapers in many

cases. They should just call it what it is: a new “half-assed reporting section.”

OMG, give them a break! It just

    started!

Here’s a note I got from one of the bloggers, earlier today:

    John, thanks

    for the well-wishes!

I look forward to getting the comment buttons going on the blog so that

I can get the conversation moving.

I think its a great idea, but they

    should definitely allow user comments.

The Boston.com blog is lame because they do not

allow comments. Yeah, its early but I will not give them a break because they will not be

implementing comments anytime soon. My GF runs NECN Digital and they run off Boston.com’s

architecture and from what I understand they do not get blogs. The platform they use is very 1.0.

If they implement comments it will not be for at least 6-8 months. This is a long shot. So you are

still the BREB. Keep up the good work.
