What’s this I hear?

Big rumor going around … something gonna rock the real estate industry. Web 2.0 meets old school … big time.
If you saw the video, you thought they were enemies … turns out, they’re more than friends … they’re business partners.

Live Nation puts its theater business up for sale

I didn’t see anything about this in a Boston newspaper, but why would I? It only takes place right in our city.
Live Nation, the country’s largest subscription series for touring theatrical performances and owner (or operator) of 13 performing arts centers, has put its business up for sale.
Live Nation runs the “Broadway Across America” […]

Beth Dickerson to Gibson Sotheby’s

Whoa. I didn’t see this one coming.
Beth Dickerson has closed up her own shop and moved over to Gibson Sotheby’s Sotheby’s.
No word on the reasoning.
I’m surprised. She is an expert in the business and has many high-end clients. I can only assume she was offered a pretty sweet deal - more money […]

Gehry building to begin life anew as retail floors put up for sale

360 Newbury has had a storied past. Most recently, the lower three floors went from being a Tower Records store to a Virgin Records store to a Best Buy (which seems an odd fit).
Upstairs, 54 condos have taken over where there used to be office space; six units remain for sale.
Now, the owner of […]

If the cost of money was constant, then maybe

I’ve been reluctant to post this entry, mostly because I don’t know if I can write it and have it make any sense.
It involves an analysis of the subprime mortgage loan crisis written by Bill Gross, Managing Director of PIMCO Bonds, a mega-bond fund company. He’s written some good stuff in the past, and […]

Subprime crisis hits pockets of MA

There are certain areas throughout the country where the subprime lending crisis seems destined to explode. (I don’t think the nation’s economy is at risk, btw.)
The Wall Street Journal created a series of graphs detailing the carnage.
Where are the biggest problems?
In the Sacramento, Calif., region, where the median household income ranks among the top […]

Cambridge goes green

Interesting idea. Offer owners the chance to lower their energy bills, paid for through interest-only loans, ending up not costing the city a dime.
… Cambridge today will launch a sweeping $70 million energy efficiency program to conserve energy in virtually every building within city boundaries …
Property owners will … be offered low- or […]

Realtor organization sees limited effects from subprime lending crisis

David Lereah, NAR’s chief economist, predicts that tighter underwriting practices may cause total home sales to fall by about 100,000 to 250,000 nationally, or no more than 3 percent a year over the next two years.
“Foreclosures are increasing inventories in certain local markets,â€? Lereah says. “The projected flood of foreclosures are problematic and will add […]

A match made in heaven … but not in your bedroom

Cute little story in today’s Times about how budding relationships can often fall apart due to just one thing - where you live.
Spring is here and the restaurants will soon be filled with anxious and hopeful couples, ordering wine, dusting off their most luminous lies, thinking they might finally have found love.
Then they will […]

NYC and LA murder rates drop while other cities suffer

Just three years ago, things looked rosy for Boston. Overall crime rates had dropped to historic lows.
Fast forward to today, and Boston is facing more shootings and more murders than it has in a decade (although some crimes are still down).
Most other major metropolitan cities have faced the same predicament - a […]
