New mixed-use development promised for corner of Tremont & Ruggles

Word is, a new mixed-use development is to be built at the corner of Tremont Street and Ruggles Street, in Roxbury, near Northeastern University (and the nice little Whittier housing development).

Three developers have submitted plans to the Boston Redevelopment Authority. Each has a residential component, although one includes in its plans a bunch of student housing. Very interesting and dramatic proposal, that!

Estimated costs of development run from $200 million to $350 million. That’s big! There may even be a supermarket and department store built as part of it.

Cross your fingers that this can be approved and built without controversy. It should be - each proposal has a very large affordable housing component (the word of the day) as well as parking and community benefits.

More information (and details on each proposal): Proposals submitted for Roxbury’s P-3 - The Boston Business Journal
